Four Monobons by harry k stammer
[untitled] #1
Jack found this is in the backyard. He brought it in the house and cooked it and ate it. Two forks. Two knives and two napkins. Jack breaks the cap on the ibuprofen bottle; twelve minutes persist into the future. Sue opens a door and walks into a room. Sue sees Jack and they both find a kettle to make some tea. Sue says “I’ll be back in twenty.” Jack takes a shit while the trash trucks come down the street, stopping and beeping while backing up. Sue shows up a little later. “Honey? Would you put the meat on the barbecue, please?”

The running begins as shuffling, then tripping and falling. Doug wants to get up but flailing shoes devouring soles stops him. There isn’t any point of getting a tourniquet the blood has spread out and out. Sue sees it.

The rocks are not exactly lined up over the yellow hill. Crows take the ground after rounding, flying, land, walk around. Clapboard house in the late sun. October sun. Elizabeth or Sam stand on the step and stare east. Two gravestones stand out. Long shadows. Crows stop then fly up and around. Then land and peck and peck more.
The wind blows through the window, candle lights the curtains

Terror in one corner. The other corners east, west, north pull at Jon’s compass. The understanding is, in a way, like a tangerine slice. Bugs bounce against the screens. Yellow jackets. Jon says “sshhhh” as loud as possible. Silence. That’s not how it usually works. Locking the back door, Jon steps into the kitchen and waits.
